Corilab offers the FABER Allergy Test to people whose symptoms may be associated with an IgE-mediated allergy and whose potential triggers require further investigation.
FABER is a multiplex in vitro blood test that uses nanobead technology to measure allergen-specific IgE in human serum or plasma.
One test, multiple allergen preparations
FABER simultaneously analyses 244 allergen preparations: 122 molecular allergens and 122 allergen extracts.
The testing system was developed by combining expertise in multiplex diagnostics, protein biochemistry, information technology and clinical allergy diagnostics.
The test can help identify patterns of allergic sensitisation. However, the presence of specific IgE does not necessarily confirm a clinical allergy. Results must therefore be interpreted alongside the individual’s symptoms, medical history and possible exposure to allergens, preferably by a doctor or allergy specialist.
When may the FABER Allergy Test be considered?
The test may be considered in the presence of symptoms potentially associated with an IgE-mediated allergy, including rhinitis, conjunctivitis, asthma, urticaria, eczema or reactions to foods, insect venom or latex.
It may also be useful when several symptoms occur together, when multiple possible triggers are suspected or when previous targeted investigations have not clarified the cause.
Medical assessment may be appropriate when symptoms persist despite restrictive diets or attempts to avoid suspected allergens. Foods should not be excluded or reintroduced solely on the basis of the test results without professional advice.
The test may also be considered when elevated total IgE or eosinophil levels require further investigation, or when a specialist is assessing whether allergen immunotherapy may be appropriate.
A family history of allergy can form part of the clinical assessment but does not, by itself, confirm that an allergy is present. Routine testing in people without symptoms should be discussed with a doctor to determine whether it is clinically appropriate.
