Thyroid Check-up

Corilab > Thyroid Check-up

What is a thyroid check-up?

The Corilab Thyroid Check-up combines a selection of hormone, protein and antibody tests in a single package. These tests are used as part of an assessment of thyroid function and certain thyroid conditions.

Some thyroid disorders, including autoimmune thyroiditis, may cause few or no symptoms during their early stages and may be identified through blood tests.

The results should be interpreted in the context of the individual’s circumstances and, where necessary, reviewed with their doctor or specialist.

TSH, FT3 and FT4 provide information about thyroid hormone regulation. Thyroid antibody tests may help investigate autoimmune thyroid conditions, while thyroglobulin has specific clinical uses and must be interpreted in the appropriate context.

When clinically indicated, laboratory testing can help identify thyroid abnormalities and guide further investigation or monitoring. It does not, however, prevent thyroid disease.

This check-up includes

  • Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

  • Free Triiodothyronine (FT3)

  • Free Thyroxine (FT4)

  • Thyroglobulin (Tg)

  • Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb)

  • Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOAb)

How to prepare for your check-up

Fasting is not normally required for these thyroid blood tests. However, follow any specific instructions provided by Corilab or your doctor, particularly if you are having other laboratory tests at the same time.

If you take supplements containing biotin, including products marketed for hair, skin or nails, tell Corilab before the test. Biotin can interfere with some laboratory methods and may produce misleading thyroid test results. Do not stop taking it without following the instructions provided by your doctor or the laboratory.

Diet

No specific dietary changes are normally required. Continue to follow your usual diet unless Corilab or your doctor has provided different instructions.

Medication

Tell your doctor or the laboratory about any medication, vitamin or supplement you are taking. If you take levothyroxine, antithyroid medication or another thyroid treatment, ask when to take your dose in relation to the blood test. Do not stop, delay or change any prescribed treatment unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
